MORE INFORMATION ON SPIRULINA

Spirulina is a microscopic blue-green, spiral shaped algae and is biologically one of the
oldest life forms on our planet. Approximately 3.6 billion years ago, Spirulina formed an
evolutionary bridge between bacteria and plant life.
Over billions of years this waterplant has perfectly been able to adapt and has been used
by various cultures in Africa, the Middle East and the Americas.
Spirulina grows naturally in mineral-rich lakes on the various continents. The largest
concentrations of naturally occurring spirulina are now found in the Texcoco lake in Mexico,
around Lake Chad in Central Africa and along the Great Rift Valley in East Africa.
Most commercial spirulina today however is grown outdoors in special containers  in parts of
North America and Asia. Since the sixties, extensive scientific research has been done on the
nutritional benefits of spirulina and now there are over 100,000 studies and articles published
that confirm the significant health benefits of spirulina.

A few facts on spirulina:

- Contains more beta carotene than any other food - 25 times more than carrots
- Contains 12 times more iron than beef liver
- Richest source of vitamin A
- Contains 11 vitamins, 10 minerals and 18 amino acids
- Is composed of 60 +% protein. Compared with meat (27%) or soybean (34%)
- Provides 12 times more bio-available protein than steak
- Rich source of antioxidants. Important for good health and longevity.
- Richest plant source of GLA (essential fatty acid)
- Als contains omega 3 fatty acids DHA and EPA
- Rich source of vitamin E, three times more than wheat germ
- Contains phycocyanin, a blue pigment rare, unique to Spirulina.
Builds the immune system and is a powerful antioxidant.

These are just a few examples of the many benefits that Spirulina offers. The only thing
Spirulina is not rich in are calories! A big plus for those who are trying to lose some weight!
It is also a welcome addition when your diet  insufficiently consists of fresh (organic)
vegetables and fruit. It is astonishing to realize that a small amount (2 tablespoons) daily in
a smoothie or a handful of tablets is similar to two good servings of vegetables.

We also want to emphasize that although spirulina is called a nutritional supplement it should be
viewed as a whole food. This means that a relatively small number of tablets per day will also have
a relatively small effect in terms of energy levels or your health. Although Spirulina is a highly
concentrated food source, most people simply take too little to experience the full benefits.
Similar would be: to take a bite of a healthy meal and expect the same effect as you would have
from the entire meal!
Myriad Smart Nutrition wants to make this superfood affordable so that it can be used in appropriate
amounts by a wide audience.
